Comeback Daniil Medvedev Wins Maiden Trophy in Nearly 30 Months

19 of Medvedev's 21 championships have been won on hardcourt

A resurgent Daniil Medvedev secured his first championship for nearly 30 months with success over opponent Moutet in the competition title decider.

The Russian, a ex- world number one, has endured a torrid period, achieving just one win at the big events and suffering a difficult moment at the US Open.

Medvedev's unpredictability on the tennis tour - and issues with his serve in particular - led to him falling of the elite rankings and ultimately parting ways with former mentor his previous coach.

Currently working with Johansson and Goetzke, he has steadily progressed in the recent weeks - climaxing in a hard-fought three-set victory over Frenchman Moutet.

It is his initial championship following the Rome competition and initial on a hardcourt since spring of 2023.

Success also means Medvedev has achieved twenty-one championships at 21 various competitions.

"It's the first time I'm at a competition with my two daughters together, so to get a title is really nice," said ranked player Medvedev.

"This title is in tribute of my second daughter her name, because the first title I achieved when my older daughter my daughter was born was for her."

Medvedev, the past champion, had failed in his last six title deciders, featuring in that event earlier this year.

The player's defensive play style and regular reactions on the playing surface had caused commentators to wonder if his ability to compete at the highest level was finished.

But the 29-year-old has made changes in recent weeks, striving to advance forward and perform assertively, reinforced by an enhanced service.

Medvedev came back from a break down in the opening set against the difficult Frenchman, taking four of the concluding five exchanges to go ahead.

Both players exchanged breaks in the middle set before the Frenchman, striving for his first ATP Tour championship, took control to create a final set.

Moutet defended four early-game break points in a tight final set before the champion won the break to fifteen to close out the victory.

Appropriately, Medvedev earned the title with a point at the net area, with Moutet failing to handle a volley after a lengthy match.
